Geeks to hold first solo concert



Hip hop duo Geeks is having their first exclusive concert after 2 years since debut.

The duo will hold its first solo concert titled, ‘Lights On’ on August 17 at UNIQLO-AX hall, Seoul. The concert includes a number of guest performers including Ailee, Phantom, Urban Zakapa’s Jo Hyun Ah, Zion.T and Park Soo Min, who all Geeks have worked together with.

Geeks made its debut in 2011 and soon gained recognition with its unique music style on various hits and collaborative singles. The duo recently released the single “FLY” which swept local music charts.

A representative of Geeks stated, At the concert, Geeks will show acoustic remake version of their songs, as well as dynamic hip hop stage. You will see more upgraded Geeks as a musician.”

f(x) tops Billboard’s K-Pop 100 Chart



After sweeping off local music charts, f(x) has now topped the Billboard’s K-Pop chart with its newest title track.

According to Billboard’s latest rankings, the girl group’s new track “Rum Pum Pum Pum” dominated the K-Pop 100 chart, taking over the top spot for the first week of August.

Also, f(x) ranked first on the cable TV show Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ on August 8th as well as on KBS ‘Music Bank’ earlier, further proving the group’s popularity and success.

Lee Jung Hyun wants to be on ‘We Got Married’ with G-Dragon



Singer Lee Jung Hyun has revealed her wish to film MBC TV ‘We Got Married’ with Big Bang’s G-Dragon.

The singer, who recently released her new single “V”, revealed her thoughts about her comeback, ideal type and marriage in an interview. When asked who would she want to film variety show ‘We Got Married’ with, Lee Jung Hyun picked G-Dragon without any hesitation.

She explained, G-Dragon may be my junior, but he's a top-notch artist. He is really flawless with his stage charisma during programs and concerts. His music and fashion style, they're all perfect.”

Big Star lay down in exhaustion after late-night rehearsal



Idol group Big Star shared photos from their late-night rehearsal.

The group’s official Twitter posted photos from the practice room and wrote, “It's 3AM now… Big Star are still running on!! We are exhausted, but we will do our best to return your love and support back! Today! We will see you on ‘Music Bank’.”

In the photos, Big Star members, who are working really hard for their “Run & Run” comeback, are lying on the floor, looking exhausted from their rehearsal.

Wonder Girls’ Sohee is a lovely flower lady for ‘Happy Rose Day’



Previews for the upcoming KBS drama special ‘Happy Rose Day’ starring Wonder Girls’ Sohee have been released!

Sohee will be starring in her first leading role on the special one-act drama ‘Happy Rose Day’, which will premiere on August 14th. Sohee will be playing the lead role of Areum who works at her mother’s flower shop, and has dreams of becoming an actress.

Teaser stills were also uploaded on the official Facebook of JYP Entertainment, showing Sohee transforming into a lovely flower lady. She is surrounded by flowers and is seen focusing on her flower arrangement.

Girl’s Day’s Sojin sings “In the Summer” for Deux’s 20th anniversary tribute album



Girl’s Day’s Sojin participated in the special tribute album for Deux.

On August 9, Sojin released a remake version of Deux’s “In the Summer” featuring rapper Zizo. The song “In the Summer” is first released in 1994 and has become one of the most popular summer K-pop songs for two decades.

The tribute album was produced to mark 20th anniversary of DEUX and their music.

Kim Hyung Jun to release duet single with Sunny Hill’s Kota



SS501’s Kim Hyung Jun will be releasing a special digital single this summer.

Titled “Always Love You”, the song is a medium-tempo R&B number which features Sunny Hill’s main vocalist Kota. It is partly produced by Kim Hyung Jun himself, and expresses about lovers who get to confirm their feelings during a trip.

The music video was directed by Kim Do Yeon, who’s worked on IU’s “Last Fantasy” and Wanted’s “Going to You”, and Park Jong Chul, the recording director of the movies ‘Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon’ and ‘The Temperature of Romance’.

The song and music video will be released at noon on August 14.


Girls’ Generation’s Yuri reveals her handsome brother



Girls’ Generation’s Yuri recently revealed a photo of her brother.

On August 9, Yuri posted photos of the siblings together on her Instagram and wrote the short messages, “Luv” and “My Bro”.

In the photo, Yuri poses naturally and is having fun with her brother. Netizens were especially drawn to the striking similar facial features between the two.

Meanwhile, Yuri is currently busy filming for her upcoming movie, ‘No Breathing’.

2NE1 asks “Do You Love Me” on ‘Music Bank’



After the success of “Falling In Love”, 2NE1 is back with another round of promotions for its latest title track “Do You Love Me”.

“Do You Love Me”, which was produced by YG’s main producer TEDDY, DEE.P and Lydia Paek, is full of fierceness and excitement that suits the summer season, just like “I Am The Best” released in the summer of 2011.

The music video was personally filmed by the members of 2NE1. Instead of using big-budget sets and high fashion stage costumes, they decided to create a home video with mobile phones and old-fashioned cameras and show a natural and casual aspect of the group.

ZE:A is “The Ghost of Wind” on ‘Music Bank’



Coming back as nine again, ZE:A released its new mini album ‘Illusion’ and kickstarted their promotions for title song, “The Ghost of Wind” on this week’s episode of ‘Music Bank’.

“The Ghost of Wind” is a song inspired from the famous musical ‘Phantom of the Opera’. The song is of the house dance genre and was written by well known K-pop composer and producer Double Sidekick.

The song is very different from their previous songs, and ZE:A said they will present new, upgraded music and performance.


Kang Seung Yoon is “Wild and Young” on ‘Music Bank’



YG Entertainment’s new artist Kang Seung Yoon is all geared up to officially promote his solo debut single “Wild and Young” on ‘Music Bank’!

The song is written by YG’s main producer Teddy and unlike his previous dance songs, “Wild and Young” contains rock sounds. It is expected to show new sounds of YG, making synergy with Kang Seung Yoon’s vocal.

B.A.P returns as “Badman” on ‘Music Bank’



The boys of B.A.P are back to the ‘Music Bank’ stage this week with their latest title track, “Badman”!

Unlike the casual, flower-boy image from first two title tracks, B.A.P will showcase its trademark fierce and powerful looks once again for “Badman” comeback. The song has been revealed to be written by the group leader, Bang Yong Guk.

R&B vocalist Lim Jeong Hee has made a comeback with her latest single “Luv Is” earlier, and she is diving straight to her promotions starting on this week’s episode of ‘Music Bank’.

“Luv Is” is a mix of pop, R&B and hip hop and features the charismatic rap of hip hop duo BaeChigi. The song is about the regrets former lovers feel after ending their relationship. The music video for the song also features 2AM’s member Seulong aand ctress Kim Da Ye.

Big Star is back with “Run and Run” on ‘Music Bank’



The boys of Big Star, who debuted with “Hot Boy” last year, are back with new mini album ‘Hang Out’ featuring the title song, “Run & Run”.

“Run & Run” is a hip hop track directed and produced by Brave Entertainment’s founder Brave Brothers and and Elephant Kingdom. For this comeback, Brave Entertainment teamed up with NH Media, home to U-Kiss, to promote Big Star’s new album.

Woollim Entertainment’s duo group TASTY kicked off their first live comeback performance for newest title track “MAMAMA” on this week’s episode of ‘Music Bank’

“MAMAMA” is the title song for the duo’s new mini album, ‘Spectacular’. The song is a combination of swing and hip hop, and its lyrics were written by their labelmates Infinite H, Dongwoo and Hoya.

Goo Hye sun to hold her own art exhibition in Shanghai



Multi-talented artist Goo Hye Sun will be holding a solo art exhibition in Shanghai, China.

Goo Hye Sun, who shows her talents in various areas such as filming, acting, painting and composing songs, is opening a solo exhibition at the Korean Cultural Service Shanghai from August 17 to 31. The exhibition will hold 20 pieces of western painting that are said to explore the themes of nostalgia and memories.

In the opening day, will attend a special event ‘Love and Peace told by Children’ with China’s underprivileged children and gifted students in art where she will paint and share meaningful conversations with them.

Gaon Chart releases rankings for July 28 – August 3

SHINee Jonghyun’s self-written “Selene 6.23″ tops music charts



SHINee’s latest tracks proudly stood at the top of local music charts.

On August 8, SHINee released it new repackaged album ‘The Misconceptions of Us’ and the title track “Selene 6.23” immediately reached the number one spot on local music charts including Olleh Music, Mnet, Bugs and Naver Music.

“Selene 6.23” is a ballad song with orchestra and piano sound. It talks about a crush and describes one sided love. The other new track “Better Off” is a pop ballad which talks about sadness of breakup. Both of the songs’ lyrics are known to be written by SHINee’s member Jonghyun.

Huh Gak to collaborate with Swings on upcoming single



Talented singer Huh Gak will be returning to fans with a new single next week.

According to A Cube Entertainment, Huh Gak will be releasing his new digital single on August 13 and will feature a different music genre from he has shown through the first studio album ‘LITTLE GIANT’.

Huh Gak collaborated with Korean rapper Swings and they will show a perfect harmony in the song which fit perfectly for the summer season.

Wheesung discharged from the military



Singer Wheesung has finally completed his military duties and returned to his fans.

On August 9, Wheesung, who served as a drill instructor at the military training base, was discharged from his two-year mandatory army services at the Nonsan Army Training Station. He gave his salute to the press and fans who came to see him, and apologized, “I wanted to complete my service quietly and cleanly, so I am sorry.”

Wheesung, who was originally scheduled to be discharged August 6th, had to serve three additional days in detention for having been caught possessing a cell phone without approval. The singer was also accused of abusing Propofol but later had his name cleared.

Solbi cast as lead in new tvN drama ‘Fantasy Tower’



Songstress Solbi has been cast as the female lead in an upcoming tvN drama ‘Fantasy Tower’.

Solbi will take on the role of Jeong Eun Sung, a reporter for a magazine who meets Yong Wan (Song Jae Rim) a man who can foresee the future.

A representative stated, “Solbi’s passion for acting is great. She threw her name out there and slowly learning how to act. Hopefully, she’ll be able to show everything she has through this drama.”

Joo Ji Hoon and T-ara’s Eunjung to host the JIMFF



Actor Joo Ji Hoon and T-ara’s Eunjung will host the opening ceremony of Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (JIMFF).

The two stars will host the opening ceremony for this year’s JIMFF and sing a famous duet track “Falling Slowly”, the mega hit soundtrack to Irish music film ‘Once’

Joo Ji Hoon has been active in various dramas and movies since his debut in ‘Princess Hours’. He has recently been cast for the new MBC drama ‘Medical Top Team’. On the other hand, Eunjung is currently busy with T-ara’s promotions in Japan.

Crayon Pop to perform at music festival for the first time



Currently receiving much love with addictive track, Crayon Pop has been invited to take part in a music festival for the first time!

According to Fortune Entertainment, Crayon Pop has been added to the lineup at the electronic music festival ‘Global Gathering Korea 2013’ which will be held on October 12. It is the first time for the group to perform for a festival.

Crayon Pop members are planing to perform three songs including “Saturday Night”, “Dancing Queen” and their hit song “Bar Bar Bar.” The festival organizer added that the group will also work with local DJ teams for a remixed version of “Bar Bar Bar”.

Kim Hyun Joong to substitute for TVXQ’s Changmin on ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’



Due to TVXQ’s busy schedule, Kim Hyun Joong temporarily replaced Changmin in the recent filming of ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’.

A representative stated that Changmin wasn’t able to participate in a recent recording on August 7th due to his prior schedules. Kim Hyun Joong will be joining the program as a new member for the next 3 weeks.

However, the rep added, “Kim Hyun Joong is joining as a new member, not as a replacement of Changmin. Kim Hyun Joong will still appear for a while even after Changmin gets back on the show.”

For this episode, the cast members headed to Taereung Village to practice badminton with national athletes that live and train there.

Lee Hyori thinks she lacks talent as a singer



Lee Hyori confessed that she didn’t have confidence in her talents.

Cable channel OnStyle has started a new reality program called ‘Lee Hyori’s X Unni’ where Lee Hyori will turn into a mentor for junior singers and give tips how to survive in the music business.

During the show, Lee Hyori revealed, “I thought I lacked the abilities as a singer. I don’t have a great vocal talent and I can’t dance well.”

While the singer coached the girl group SPICA, she also admitted that there are things she can learn from them, “To be honest, SPICA is better than I am and I need to learn from them.”

Did Lee Seung Gi had a major procedure recently?



In a recent broadcast of SBS’ ‘One Night of TV Entertainment’ aired on August 7th, Lee Seung Gi participated in an interview and revealed that he had a major procedure done.

During the interview, the host talked about how Lee Seung Gi’s looks have changed a lot and asked him if he ever had plastic surgery. He replied, “I didn’t have plastic surgery but I received a procedure a couple of days ago.”

However, Lee Seung Gi cleared out, “I pulled out a wisdom tooth. Taking a tooth out is a major procedure. Do you know how scary it is? I was very shocked.”


NU’EST releases JR and Ren’s image teasers for 3rd mini album ‘Sleep Talking’



After their successful exclusive concert tour in Asia, NU’EST is gearing up to make a comeback later this month.

The five-member group raised anticipation of their upcoming third mini album ‘Sleep Talking’ by posting first set of image teasers featuring members JR and Ren. The group also confirmed the album release date of August 22.

NU’EST is coming back to the music scene with hit K-pop songwriter Double Kick. The boys are set to present fans with a cooling summer tune that they have never shown in previous albums.

New girl group Wassup debuts with “Wa$$up” on ‘M! Countdown’



New girl group Wassup, who has already been gaining attention as ‘twerking idols’, kicked off their debut performance for “Wa$$up” on ‘M! Countdown’.

Wassup, who has been training for three years, is a seven-member hip hop group created by Sony Music Korea and Mafia Record. The group consists of members Jinju, Nari, Nada, Dain, Woojoo, Sujin and Jiae.

The group aims to differentiate themselves from the other debuting girl groups by incorporating “dancehall” music and twerking in their debut.

Having recently released its mini album ‘Memory’, Ulala Session has returned with new digital single “Fonky”. The group also kicked off their first comeback performance tonight on ‘M! Countdown’.

Unlike Ulala Session’s soulful ballads, “Fonky” is a combination of “funky blues” and trot. The song was composed and written by Ulala Session members, and features the legendary trot singer Sul Woon Do, who incorporates the trot genre in the track.

Yoo Sae Yoon to make a comeback as UV after DUI incident



After keeping quiet following his DUI incident earlier this year, comedian-singer Yoo Sae Yoon will be soon returning to the public eye as part of UV.

According to representatives, Yoo Se Yoon and Muzi will be releasing a new single on August 16. They are working on the finishing touches on the single and already finished filming for the music video.

However, UV will not perform the song for the public nor promote the album.

Back in May, Yoo Sae Yoon had voluntarily admitted to drinking under the influence. His DUI had led him to step down from his positions on many popular variety shows like ‘Knee Drop Guru’, ‘Radio Star’ and ‘SNL Korea’.

MYNAME to give a unique ceremonial first pitch in baseball game



The boys of MYNAME have promised their fans to give a unique ceremonial first pitch.

MYNAME will be giving the ceremonial first pitch for the baseball game between Nexen Heroes and SK Y-Burns to be held in Mok-dong baseball field in Seoul on August 8th at 6PM (KST). Member Seyong will be throwing the ball while JoonQ will stand at the plate as the batter.

During cleaning time, MYNAME will be putting on a performance of their latest track “Baby I’m Sorry”, cheering and wishing for the victory of Nexen Heroes.

Seyong and JoonQ said, “We’re researching various ways to put on a unique first pitch performance. A lot of people will be surprised.”

T-ara tops Oricon’s Daily Chart with ‘Treasure Box’



T-ara’s latest Japanese album has proudly stood at the top of Japan’s prestigious Oricon chart.

The group’s second studio album ‘Treasure Box’ topped Oricon’s Daily Album chart on the day of its release on August 7th, after selling 10,059 copies. The album contains 13 songs, including the Japanese version of Korean releases, duet tracks from ‘Bunny Style!’ single and new Japanese originals, “Target” and “Dejavu”.

B.A.P has been chosen as the new face of school uniform brand, ‘SKOOLOOKS’.

According to TS Entertainment on August 8, the B.A.P members are the new endorsement models for the famous school uniform brand, ‘SKOOLOOKS’, which top groups Big Bang, B2ST and A Pink modeled before.

In the released photos, the six B.A.P members shed off their fierce and powerful looks for a more friendly appeal as they don colorful school uniforms and baseball caps, showing off refreshing and comfortable charms.
